Very rare Japanese six-fold lacquer screen.
Height 67½" (1,71.5m).
Width of each leaf 21½" (54.5cm).
Provenance :- The Dukes of Hamilton, Lennoxlove, East Lothian. Now in the Victoria & Albert Museum (Museum No. FE.50-1980).
On this occasion at least, the description ‘very rare’ is not misplaced, as this is the only Japanese lacquer screen known to exist. (1)
