Hand-coloured engraved folding map on six sheets, dissected and mounted on linen, with dedication to William IV, and further inscribed, ‘From an actual survey made in the years 1824, 1825 & 1826’, and the date 'Aug. 21 1827’, with two engravings of Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral and with boundaries marked of the Cities of London and Westminster, the Borough of Southwark, the Rules of the King’s Bench & Fleet, the Clink Liberty, the Parishes, and of the Counties of Middlesex, Surrey and Kent. With original green morocco slip case.

Over frame, 57¼"  x  80½"  (1,45.5m  x  2,04.5m).

This is a fine example of the First Edition of this important London map, with fine contemporary hand-colouring. The Greenwood London map was unrivalled for accuracy until the issue of the Government sponsored maps of the Ordnance Survey in the mid-19th Century, and it remains unmatched for the quality of its engraving.
