Rare Set of Twelve Armchairs

English, Late 18th Century

Rare Set of Twelve Mahogany Armchairs, of simple Sheraton design, the square backs with four reeded uprights, with drop-in seats. Circa 1790.

Provenance :-  James Erskine Chapman (d. 1994), Leck Hill House, Cowan Bridge, Lancashire. The Chapman family had previously lived at St. Paul’s Cray Hill, Kent, an Elizabethan house, from the late-17th Century until 1919, and these chairs probably originated from there.
